
Detroit-bred Jamea Richmond-Edwards studied painting and drawing at Jackson State University, and began illustrating for The Jackson Free Press and a children’s book titled ”Grandma’s Biscuits” by Robert Little. Since graduating Jamea has moved on to teach art to elementary, middle, and high school students while developing her own unique style of mixed media portraiture. She primarily paints women and is influenced by childhood memories and the complex lives of the women in her life. She currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband and two sons. Jamea was kind enough to answer a few of our questions:
Project Mixed Media’s next series is based on the concept of love using blues, purples, white, and silver. We’re excited and busily working on all new stuff, and from now until the series debuts next spring, we’ll be emphasizing one of mankind’s most basic emotions.
