About Us

pmxm-logoThe visual arts collaborative Project Mixed Media was formed in 2006 by Washington, DC artists Elva R. Lovoz & Prudence Bonds. As a duo, we mutually agree on one concept and a color scheme to produce and present a cohesive collection.  By challenging ourselves to create with restrictions, we find inspiration and common ground by stepping outside of our comfort zones.

Here at www.projectmxm.com, we’ll spotlight emerging and established artists, offer advice, and share our stories, upcoming projects, and events.

Elva R. Lovoz (also known as Roxy) was born and raised in “the diamond in the rough,” the District of Columbia. She grew up within an artistic, diverse family which strives to continue the Lovoz legacy of creativity. Elva has been involved in the arts in many forms, but never with painting until 6 years ago.

As her work progressed, Lovoz has donated to organizations in the DC area. In April 2003, she donated “Cupids” to the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center’s 10th Annual Scholarship Fund benefit auction. And in 2005 Elva donated “Angles,” a piece featuring her distinctive squigglies, to the Whitman Walker Art for Life benefit auction. Inspired by her mother and Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” Elva developed her signature style squigglies – short, curved lines that create mystery and movement throughout each composition. Squigglies are meant to jog the imagination and invite the audience to find pocket images within the entire piece.

Elva’s work is eclectic and reflects her multicultural roots, a combination of DC Folk Art, Salvadorian, Gypsy (Gitano of Spain), & Native American influences. Lovoz’s work is ever evolving and her images exhibit powerful examples of human expressions and reveal strong emotions.

Prudence Bonds

"Hope" by Prudence Bonds

Born in Florida and raised in DC since infancy, a self-taught artist, as a teenager Prudence took courses at the Corcoran School of Art for figure drawing and photography & film development.
Bonds began painting and drawing consistently in 2001 and in April 2003 participated in the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center’s 10th Annual Scholarship Fund benefit auction by donating “Girl Tantalus,” an original work of acrylic on canvas picturing the fabled origins of the word tantalize

Prudence depicts people living throughout the African Diaspora, and beyond, by using color, texture, and introspection. Since acceptable images of human concepts such as love and beauty are perpetuated through art, literature, music, and the media, her pieces echo the attempt made by people of color to redefine and re-present those concepts in their terms.
